Mycotoxins

Mycotoxins are toxic compounds produced by certain types of mold—and even in small amounts, they can pose serious health risks. At Cannalab Laboratory, our mycotoxin testing services help ensure your cannabis products are free from these dangerous contaminants and fully compliant with safety regulations.

What Are Mycotoxins

Mycotoxins are secondary metabolites produced by molds such as Aspergillus, Penicillium, and Fusarium. These toxins can form during cultivation, drying, or storage—especially in humid or unsanitary conditions. Inhalation or ingestion of mycotoxins may lead to:

  • Liver and kidney damage

  • Immune system suppression

  • Carcinogenic effects

  • Respiratory illness, particularly in vulnerable users

Because of their potency and persistence, mycotoxins must be strictly monitored in all cannabis products—especially those intended for medical use.

What We Test For

Cannalab Laboratory screens for the four primary mycotoxins required by regulatory authorities:

  • Aflatoxin B1

  • Aflatoxin B2

  • Aflatoxin G1

  • Aflatoxin G2

  • Ochratoxin A

These toxins are reported individually and as a total value for compliance with state-mandated limits.

Products We Test

  • Dried flower

  • Pre-rolls

  • Concentrates and extracts
