Terpene Profiling: Unlocking the Aroma, Flavor & Effects of Cannabis

Cannabis isn’t just about THC and CBD—terpenes are the aromatic compounds that give each strain its unique scent, flavor, and influence on effects. At Cannalab Laboratory, our Terpene Profiling services help cultivators, brands, and consumers better understand the full spectrum of their cannabis products.

What Are Terpenes?

Terpenes are natural compounds found in cannabis (and many other plants) that produce distinctive aromas like citrus, pine, spice, and earth. More than just pleasant smells, terpenes can also play a key role in:

  • Modulating effects of cannabinoids (the “entourage effect”)

  • Shaping strain identity and user experience

  • Influencing therapeutic potential for stress, focus, or relaxation

Common Terpenes We Analyze

  • Myrcene – musky, sedative, commonly found in indica strains

  • Limonene – citrusy, uplifting, stress relief

  • Caryophyllene – spicy, peppery, with anti-inflammatory potential

  • Pinene – pine-scented, linked to focus and alertness

  • Linalool – floral, calming, often found in lavender and indica-dominant strains

  • Humulene, Terpinolene, Ocimene, and more

What We Test

Our lab delivers accurate, high-resolution terpene data across a wide range of product types:

  • Flower

  • Concentrates

  • Vape cartridges

  • Edibles & infused products

Turnaround time is typically 4–7 business days, and each report includes a detailed Certificate of Analysis (COA) with terpene percentages and profiles.
